Corporate Rewards is currently working with Nestle on the second phase of their in-house recognitino programme.

Tuesday, September 06, 2011
Below is a case study of the first programme phase, which uses a 'Peer to Peer' nomination system to promote across-the-board excellence and enhance relationships between difference business areas.

'Your Reward - Recognising the Difference You Make' is an ongoing recognition,  nomination and award programme created for  Nestle UK and Ireland

Quick Q and A

Q: Who were the target audience?
A: Office and factory based employees in the UK and Ireland

Q: How many people took part?
A: 7,000 staff  at 8 business units on different sites

Q: What were the programme aims?
A:
•    To promote and re-enforce  a series of identified behaviours – examples of desirable workplace attitudes and actions
•    To motivate employees to incorporate these behaviours into their working lives
•    To recognise  and reward employees who demonstrate the behaviours in action
•    To encourage a spirit of mutual appreciation and inter-business co-operation

Peer2Peer

The recognition portal was based on Corporate Rewards’ Peer2Peer nomination system.  This automates employee nomination process, letting managers approve, adjust or decline nominations in a straightforward, fair manner.  Together with the MyRewards points banking and reward catalogue, Peer2Peer provides a complete award recognition and redemption service, together with tools like e-cards and downloadable certificates.

The Nestle Programme

The Nestle programme featured 3 award levels. Nominators could decide which level the nominee should receive and value of the award to be made (the site providing guidance and recommendations). The approving Manager could then adjust these levels if appropriate, and a further supervisory check ensured fairness and accountability.
A major challenge was that the 5 key behaviours varied from unit to unit.  To accommodate this, 4 separate websites were created, operating as one for all practical purposes.

Around 50% of participants don’t have internet access as part of their job.   So a parallel offline programme included a printed reward catalogue and a telephone nomination and redemption service.
Participants in Ireland had their own s reward catalogue with goods and services tailored to regional preferences and availability.

Results

Your Reward replaced a previous recognition scheme.  Since launch, nominations on a unit by unit basis have almost doubled, and the e-card appreciation system has been fully utilised.  Millions of pounds’ worth of business improvements, gains and savings have been celebrated and rewarded.
Nestle are so delighted with the success of Your Reward that they have decided to incorporate a Long Service Award scheme into the programme for 2011.

‘Your Reward has proved a great success across the Nestlé business. It has enabled us to have a ‘one-company’ feel and..to show our employees we trust them ’
Emma Hodges, Reward Advisor, Nestle UK and Ireland.
